SNFCC

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is a multifunctional, sustainable destination for learning, culture, sports and recreation. It includes the new state-of-the-art facilities of the National Library of Greece, the Greek National Opera and the Stavros Niarchos Park, covering an area of 210,000 square meters. It aims at enriching the daily lives of Athenians while attracting visitors from all over the world. Its free programming, thanks to a Stavros Niarchos Foundation grant, includes sporting activities, classes and workshops, architectural tours, family activities, concerts, screenings and numerous other events, with the goal to remain open and accessible to all. It has become a new landmark in Athens and beyond; the New York Times included the SNFCC in their article on the 52 places to see in 2017. Within its first year of operation, its visitors reached 1.5 million. Situated 4.5 km from downtown Athens, in Kallithea, the SNFCC offers breathtaking views of Athens, Piraeus and the Saronic Gulf. The Lighthouse, its tallest point, located on top of the Greek National Opera, has a direct visual connection to the Acropolis Hill. SNFCC also includes conference facilities, food and beverage venues, playgrounds, rental bikes, and a seawater canal that is 400m long. It possesses one of the hardest to obtain sustainability verifications, the Platinum LEED certification. Designed by the internationally renowned Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the SNFCC is the single largest donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and was delivered to the Greek citizens in late February.
